HELP & SUPPORT

Q: What is a Live Auction?

A: In a Live Auction, bids are only accepted from the auction floor from bidders who are physically present at the auction.

Q: How does a live auction work?

A: On auction day, local bidders can register for a bid card, a refundable deposit  may be required to receive a bidder card, please note that when you sign your registration card you are accepting the terms of sale for that Auction.

When the auction is about to begin, the auctioneer announces the terms of the sale so all bidders are aware of their responsibilities in bidding.

When a bidder is ready to make a bid, they simply raise their hand or their bidder card and the auctioneer and acknowledges the bid.

Upon the successful winning of the bid, the auctioneer announces the winning bidder number and the final bid amount, This information is recorded and available to the cashiers in real-time, enabling live bidders to pay for purchases as soon as the auction lot is sold.

The bidder can pay by cash only, In most cases, the bidder must remove his/her property from the auction location immediately following the sale.

HOW DOES AN ABSENTEE (Proxy )BID WORK?

Live Auctions

Visit the Auction venue, view the item you are interested in, satisfy yourself that the condition is to your satisfaction, All Lots marked T/W & GWO have a 24hr warranty from payment.

Ask for a Proxy bidding form at reception fill in your contact details and place  a bid (the highest amount you are willing to pay) for the Lot you would like to buy, please ensure you enter the correct Lot number as your bid is binding, Sign the form accepting the terms and conditions of sale, please note you may be asked for a refundable deposit.

You can leave a proxy bid at anytime during the Live Auction.

During the auction when the Lot comes up for auction there will be a staff member designated to bid for you. The bidding will never start with your bid, a live bidder will always start the bidding.
Your bid will be placed each time there is no live bidder bidding and the bidding has not exceeded your highest amount.

A Buyers premium of 10% + IVA will be added to any winning bid

What this means is:

  1. You may get the Lot for less than your high bid.
  2. You may get outbid and not win the Lot.
  3. You may win the Lot for your high bid if there is a live bidder that bids the Lot up and your high bid is the last bid.

If your Proxy bids are successful you will be informed by sms text or telephone message.

ALL winning proxy bids must be paid for within 48 hours of notification.

What is Online proxy bidding?

Proxy bidding makes bidding on online auctions easier and less time-consuming for buyers once the auction reserve price has been met if any exist

Lumsdens will automatically place a bid on your behalf for the lowest amount possible up to your maximum bid using an increment bidding system.  This allows you to remain the highest bidder for the auction and your proxy bid will remain confidential.  Incremental bidding will only take effect once the reserve price has been met if any.  To use Lumsdens  proxy bidding system enter the maximum price you are willing to bid for the lot in the bid box and ensure you select proxy otherwise the system defaults to Absolute bid, if you make an error you can just can cancel your bids within a 5 minute time by selecting the red dustbin within the lot details

When you win the auction with proxy bidding you pay only the lowest possible winning bid, which may not necessarily be your maximum bid.

Live Auction online Proxy bidding Highest Bidder: you will receive an email stating , Your bid has been confirmed and now you are the highest bidder but may still be out bid in the Live Auction room , without any outbid notice sent. ( Online Proxy bidding closes at 10:00 on Saturday Morning, Live Auction starts 10:30 ),If you win any items at any of our Auctions you WILL receive an email with an invoice attached, you can also check your My Lumsden Dashboard under invoice history to see latest invoices.

Please note: When proxy bidding is used it may appear as if one bidder has outbid another with the exact same amount.

Example: Bidder 1 has set a maximum proxy bid of € 20.00 and Bidder 2 places a bid that matches that amount.  Because Bidder 1 placed his/her proxy bid earlier, it has priority and will be the current highest bid.  Bidder 2 must then place a new, higher bid of ≥ €20.00 to continue in the auction. This rule applies for any auction with two or more participants.

Absolute Bidding

An Absolute Bid (or traditional bid) is the “immediate” amount a bidder wishes to pay for an item. If an Absolute bid is successful, the high bid will increase directly to the full amount of the Absolute bid.

Example 1:
Assume the current high bid on an item is € 100 and is held by Bidder A with NO proxy  bid. If the minimum raise is €10, then Bidder B must bid at least €110.  However  If Bidder B places an Absolute bid of €150 then the high bid will increase immediately to €150 with Bidder B as the new high bidder.

Example 2:
Since it is important to note that Absolute bids may be competing against Proxy  Bids in the Combination Bidding environment, consider another example that is the same as the first except Bidder A has a proxy Bid of €170.  Note that by definition the Proxy Bid of €170 is not seen by Bidder B. In this case, the €150 bid placed by Bidder B will raise the high bid to €160 (€150 + the €10 minimum increment) and Bidder A will remain the high bidder.
